 Reiki for Animals and People

What is Reiki?

Reiki is a very gentle non-invasive technique using hands on or off the body, where the Practioner is trained to act as a conduit to enable Reiki energy to flow where it is needed. This energy flows through all living things and is the basis of many different methodologies of energy practice, with Reiki being one of these.

This life force energy is chanelled by the Practioner, and uses the natural energy centres within the body, called Chakras, and the Meridian lines which run through these Chakras.  These ancient systems play an important role and a Reiki Practioner allows the energy to flow, to enable the body to balance itself.

This can help to restore physical and emotional well-being, which activates the body’s natural healing capabilities, bringing about a deeply relaxing state.

Reiki is a universal technique, suitable for all, whether humans, animals or plants.

How will they feel

Reiki may be experienced as a flow of energy, mild tingling, warmth, coolness, other sensations, or nothing at all.

Some animals may wish to sniff a practitioners hands or step away slightly. Others may come closer offering their sore parts to the practitioner.

Some animals may also fall asleep.  As I integrate different modalities within my Reiki practice, which can include tuning forks, crsyals and Heart Led Intuitive Animal Communcation, then it is not uncommon for aniamals to go to their safe space or bed and fall asleep.

There is no right or wrong way to experience Reiki, as every animal is different.  What is important is that Reiki regardless of how we experience it,  works for the higher good of the animal.

Reiki for animals is always centred around the wishes of the animal, and permission is always sought through Heart led Intuitive Animal Commuincation practices, before the commencement of a Reiki session

How does Reiki work with animals?

Reiki works in exactly the same way with humans as it does with animals.  It is just used in a different way.

Animals are energetically sensitive, and this is a very important consideration. We must respect their wishes and boundaries.

We have to be mindful of the way animals communicate, taking this into account during sessions.  As an Intuitive Animal Commincator, I use a variety of techiques to enable me to facilitate the Reiki session.

Reiki can be practiced either in person or at a distance, using a hands on or hands off technique.  I use exactly the same approach whether I'm in the same room, a different room or a completely different location to the animal.

Due to the varied application of this wonderful calm energy practice, it can be used with animals in person using gentle hands on, where they are free to move around, moving in and out of the energy and allowing it to integrate as required.

It can be practiced in a different room, if a stranger in their space is too intense, and Reiki can also be practiced at a distance in a completely different location.  This is especially helpful if an animal is at the vets, a rescue centre or elsewhere.

Reiki is universal life force energy, where distance, space and time are not boundaries to receiving its benefits.

Reasons for offering Reiki for animals

Emotional considerations

Animals, especially cats are sensitive souls.  Cats appear less needy than dogs, but cats often internalise their emotions and they can feel imbalances which can often manifest in common behavioural problems such as inapproptiate toileting or over grooming as examples.

As with humans, Reiki may benefit animals with physical, mental or emotional issues and consequently this holistic complementary therapy may also be of help for animals with behavioural problems that have an emotional basis or influence.

Reiki is not a magical cure and is not an alternative to conventional veterinary care but it is a natural, calm therapy that promotes the body’s natural process of self-healing and is enjoyed by many animals.

Animals and humans have a unique connection.  Any stress or anxiety in humans can often be reflected in their pets.  Therefore, sometimes, Reiki may need to be offered to both the animal and their human to fully appreciate the benefits.

Reiki can promote a sense of comfort, relaxation and wellbeing.  When the mind and body move from a stressed tense state, into a relaxed comfortable energy, then this helps the body and mind to heal, which in itself is a profound realisation.

Many animals (and people) need some help to move from a survival state into a relaxed restful state to allow healing to occur.

Reiki is often used to ensure a peaceful transition during end of life care.  This is a very precious moment and the very last gift we can offer animals in our car.  It is always an honour to facilitate Reiki and energy work at this time.

Services and Cost

Reiki for animals in their own home

Carried out in an animal's familiar surroundings, where they feel safe and comfortable.

The approach I use is always gentle presence, where the animal chooses if they receive Reiki, whether it is hands on or hands off, and whether they remain in the same room as me.

Distractions and noise must be kept to a minimum to allow me to facilitate the Reiki session.

I use a variety of techniques to help in the facilitation of Reiki, which may include Tuning Forks, Crystals and Heart Centred, Intuitive Animal Communcation.

It does not matter whether the animal remains in the same room as me, or chooses to move elsewhere, as the energetic properties of Reiki and the techniques to facilitate a connection, are not restricted by physical presence.

As this is not a pet sitting visit, then a meet and greet approach is not used here, but instead a calm gentle presence, which may or may not invlude obvious physical interaction with the animal.  Depending on the needs of the animal, I may specifically choose to be in another room if an animal is over stimulated or anxious by my phyisical presence

Some animals, especially cats find a direct physical approach overwhelming, and I always work with the animal's personal preference.

Collective Distance Reiki

This form of distance Reiki involves sending focused energy to more than one recipient at any given time.

It is designed to work as a ripple effect and is a wonderful way to enjoy the powerful benefits of Reiki.

In these instances, I send Reiki to those who have requested for their pets, at a time which suits me and they can then enjoy the benefits when they feel ready to receive it.

There are no charges for distance Reiki for any of my customers.

Reiki During Pet Sitting

I offer Reiki sessions for my Pet Sitting clients, which is a wonderful add on service for pets in my care.

My approach to Pet Sitting is already, calm and animal centred,  helping them to feel safe and relaxed in my presence.

Offering Reiki can be seen as an extension of this, directing my focus to Reiki and Heart Centred Animal Communication to facilitate the session.

It would be offered after the pet sitting visit, and I would give a separate update from the pet sitting element, after the session.

I use a variety of techniques to facilitate the session,  which may include Tuning Forks, Crystals and Heart Centred Intuitive Animal Communcation.

There is currently no legal requirment to obtain a Veterinary referral, or permission before offering Reiki to animals, but it is important that you consult a vet if you are concerned about any suspected physical health issue, which may need to be diagnosed by a vet, which includes any sudden behavioural changes that may have a physical cause.

Some pet insurance companies are starting to include Reiki treatment within their insurance poliies, but will often require a vet referral if this is the case.

As a Reiki Practioner and Animal Communicator, the services I offer are not a replacement for conventional veterinary medicine or treatments.
